The Coven: Thrilling- Unexpected - Slow Burn Romance

The Coven: Coven of Bones was released on March 16, 2023 by Harper L. Woods and Adelaide Forrest. This book is currently on the best seller list in paranormal vampire romance and romantic fantasy. The second book, The Cursed (Coven of Bones), is expected August 23, 2023.

The story begins with Willow losing her mother due to illness. Willow’s family are witches hiding from The Coven. With her mother’s death, they are no longer able to hide. She plans to ensure her little brother is safe and infiltrate the Coven to get an ancestral item back from the Coven.

The Coven ends up finding her faster than anticipated. They sent the head master, Alaric Grayson Thorne, to recruit her to attend their school. Willow uses this to her advantage to execute her Father’s plan. The plan is to seduce Alaric to get valuable information. As time goes on, she finds herself attracted to him. There is tension between Willow and The Coven. The Coven is led by her ancestor. The ancestor has plans for Willow to continue their family blood line.

I was hooked into this story very quickly. The character Willow is very relatable. The sexual tension between Willow and Alaric’s relationship is a slow burn and classic enemy to lovers. The authors take on vampire is unique. Witches created a new being and called them Vampires because they require blood to sustain themselves. Their purpose is because of the deal The Coven agreed to hundreds of years ago.

The most surprising part of this story is the cliff hanger. I shall not spoil it in this post. It is a plot twist and totally unexpected (or at least I didn’t expect it). This element makes the story refreshing and unique. It becomes a reimagined enemy to lovers’ story.

There are triggers in this story. The authors list all the triggers at the end of prologue; however, reading this section may spoil the ending. It is a dark paranormal romance with a domineering male lead, violence, forced situations, ritualistic murder, and abuse.

I highly recommend this series. It kept me up to the wee hours of the morning. Harper and Adelaide successfully got me emotionally involved in Willow’s story. It took a couple days for me to stop reeling from the cliffhanger.
